The Basalt Public Library, CRMPI and the Roaring Fork Food Policy Council are thrilled to announce that our beautiful library has a new and exciting feature for the community to enjoy!  The new Basalt Seed Library Project is a part of a growing network of concerned farmers and community gardeners dedicated to conserving the remaining genetic diversity of our planet’s seed stock.  We are creating a library of healthy and regionally adapted vegetable, herb and flower seeds that is available free to the public.  We are a dynamic group that needs your support and involvement!

  1. -Wednesday, March 27th @ the Basalt Regional Library

  2. -Free and Open to the Public, 5:30pm

  3. -Learn more about this program and how to use it!

How it works:

Seeds will be available for local gardeners and farmers to

“check out” with the agreement that they grow them out and

collect some of the seed to return to the library.  The seed of

each new generation we will better adapted to the climate in

the Roaring Fork Valley, increasing resistance to disturbance

in our gardens and farms.

Seeds are categorized by seed saving difficulty to help users

navigate which seeds are the easiest to save.

We would like to thank Victory Seed Company, Lake Valley Seeds, Territorial Seeds, Botanical Interests, Beauty Beyond Belief, Bakers Creek Heirloom Seeds and High Mowing Seeds for contributing our first seeds for the library!
